Admission Policy
The American Academy of Independent Studies (AAIS) is an open-admission institution.
AAIS was created for and serves self-directed adult learners by offering the opportunity to
acquire professional certification and continuing education from the comfort of home. Those students best served by the institution are self-motivated adult learners who have generally, though not exclusively, earned at least a high school diploma or General Equivalency
Diploma. Applicants are expected to be at least 18 years of age and fluent in the English language. AAIS maintains sole discretion for admitting those students who would benefit appropriately from the learning and education provided by this institution. Previous learning
or credits are not transferable toward the completion of any course.
Since English is the language of instruction used by AAIS, it is essential that all applicants be prepared to understand, read, and express their thoughts clearly in written English. Failure to meet this requirement constitutes sufficient reason for AAIS to deny admission.
Applications for enrollment are accepted on a rolling schedule. Since independent study is not determined by a time or place and since each student is a "class of one," admission and acceptance is followed by the shipment of all required study materials.

basis of race, color, national origin, age, sex, or handicap in admission to,
access to, treatment in, or employment in its programs and activities.
