What is the American Academy of Independent Studies?
AAIS was founded in 1984 to serve the training needs of the food service industry by
providing courses needed for professional certification or certification renewal through independent (correspondence) study. This means that you can study at home, when and
where it suits you. Because it is so convenient, independent study has been used successfully
by millions of people the world over to gain new skills and acquire knowledge. You save time
and money with AAIS, yet your training is professional, complete, and career-oriented!
How can I be sure AAIS provides quality educational services?
AAIS is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools,
and must meet its scholastic criteria in order to offer courses to you.
How much time does it take to complete a course?
You can study at a pace that suits you. We allow six months for each course,
but many students complete their course(s) in just a few weeks.
What is an AAIS course like?
Courses are designed by professionals for professionals. These top industry specialists are experts when it comes to providing you with the information you need in a convenient, easy-to-use format. Your exclusive AAIS Learning Guide will lead you through your course in an organized and engaging manner. Each course consists of one to four multiple choice exams. If you have questions as you work through the course or prepare to take an exam, you can get help by phone, fax, e-mail, or written correspondence.
What are some of the other advantages to training with AAIS?
First, and perhaps most importantly, is that you can start -and learn- whenever you like. You progress at your own rate.
You are in complete control. You are in a class by yourself, yet your instructor is always ready to answer your questions
and offer advice and encouragement whenever requested. Finally, there is the money you can save. With AAIS you pay
only for the courses you need to earn or renew your certification. Since everything you need to complete your training
is included, you can save money over what you might expect to pay for a "traditional" classroom course.
Do I need to have my high school diploma to enroll in AAIS?
While it would be helpful to have your high school diploma, it is not a requirement to enroll in any of our courses.
If you are proficient in English, have basic math skills and are willing to spend a few hours a week on
your lessons, you should be able to successfully complete any AAIS course.
How can I be sure this training will help me as an ACF member?
The American Culinary Federation (ACF) fully recognizes AAIS courses for certification, certification renewal,
and continuing education credits. You can enroll with confidence in any AAIS course, knowing that your
training will count. Be aware that AAIS cannot award your ACF certification, but will help you thoroughly train for it.
How do I get started?
There are several different ways...you can send us your Enrollment Application or
you can enroll by phone, fax, or on the Web. It's as easy as 1-2-3!
