American Academy Approved to Offer Pennsylvania Food Employee Recertification Course.
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has approved AAIS’s new PA Food
Employee Recertification course. Students will now be able to maintain their
hard-earned certification from the comfort of their own home. The state of Pennsylvania
requires that certificate holders complete a recertification course prior to the expiration
of their initial certification. Considering the time and effort it takes to obtain this critical
certification, AAIS has developed a convenient and cost-effective way for employers and employees of food service establishments to stay in compliance with Pennsylvania law.
PA Food Employee Recertification is formatted as an easy-to-follow
Learning Guide that reviews the following topics:
• Food Safety
• The Flow of Food
• Maintaining Safe and Sanitary Facilities and Equipment
• The Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point System
• Kitchen Safety
Don’t let your certification lapse and leave your business at risk…

ACF makes the American Academy of Independent Studies an Afinnity Partner to provide
a Source of Distance Education Certification Courses and Refresher Courses.
American Academy of Independent Studies (AAIS) offers distance education courses on a variety of nutrition, food safety,
and foodservice subjects, helping ACF members earn, or maintain, their certification. 17 courses are approved by the
education department of the ACF for certification requirements and for renewal of certification. AAIS has now been
elevated to Affinity Partner status! Since 1984, when AAIS first began to offer ACF members distance education courses,
the school has provided over 15,000 courses to chefs from all over the world.
As Chef A. Douglas Benner will tell you, AAIS puts your satisfaction first:
"I can't say enough good things about the AAIS staff. I was under tight time constraints to finish my recertification and they bent over backwards to help me get everything done on time. The refresher courses were informative and well thought - out. It was a joy working with everyone I talked to. I've taken classes just about every way possible and this was by far the best experience."
AAIS Provides Sanitation Course to Fulfill PA State Requirement.
Will your staff be certified when the state inspectors arrive? If you're not familiar with the new law
or you're not sure if it applies to you, it's actually fairly simple.
The act was the product of an industry-driven initiative to establish minimum food safety training
requirements to be met by at least one supervisory employee in most food establishments in this
Commonwealth. A partial list of food establishments in need of this certification are:
A room, building, place or portion thereof or vehicle maintained, used or operated for the purpose of selling to the public, commercially storing, packaging, making, cooking, mixing, processing, bottling, baking, canning, freezing, packing or otherwise preparing, transporting or handling food. The term includes retail food stores and public eating and drinking licensees, except those portions of establishments operating exclusively under milk or milk products permits and those portions of establishments operating exclusively under United States Department of Agriculture inspection. Also included are food establishments or a section of a food establishment where food and food products are offered to the consumer and intended for off-premises consumption.
How do you get certified? One way is to locate a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture approved program,
pay the full amount for the course, and spend several business days, nights, or weekends completing
the classroom training, as well as handling the travel expenses for yourself or your employees.
Or, you can take a much more convenient and cost-effective approach: enroll today in a home study course with The American Academy of Independent Studies (AAIS).
Forget missed work or late night classes! Home study is one of the easiest ways to acquire certification.
Why? AAIS puts you in charge by offering unsurpassed education, convenience and value.
